BitcoinRacing: Nankang Tyre Citycar Cup is a way to increase cryptocurrency take-up
BitcoinRacing was formed with the stated aim speeding up the adoption of Bitcoin as an everyday currency. Writing at the start of the year, company representatives explained that the plan is to achieve that end “by travelling 5000 miles across the UK in 2022 with an HGV transporter decorated in Bitcoin decals and entering four race cars into the Nankang City Car Cup…” That, they continued, will make the team a “mobile advertisement for Bitcoin”.
In addition, the team has been rolling out “a robust social media campaign”. Team partners include the eclectic mix of: The State of El Salvador, The Lazy Llamas NFT collective and the Cambridge Blockchain Society.
Launched in 2020, the Nankang-sponsored CityCar Cup Championship features 1.0 litre 3 door models of the 2005-2013 Toyota Aygo, Peugeot 107 and Citroen C1, with the carefully designed technical regulations ensuring that all cars deliver equal track performance and drive like “proper” race cars. As well as a SW Motorsports roll cage, the cars feature Nankang NS-2R tyres, a remapped ECU and other mandatory features such as a sports exhaust and 15-inch ATS alloy wheels.
According to the series’ organisers, the BRSCC CityCar Cup Championship has quickly become “one of the fastest growing and best value for money UK tin-top racing series”.
“Have you ever seen an articulated lorry drive past you with a huge glossy Bitcoin logo, and the flag of El Salvador plastered down its side as you travel the UK’s highways? My guess is no! Well, not yet anyway! But now, due to the efforts of a family-run race team, you might just get to see that amazing sight as you go about your daily commute. Make sure to honk and wave as you see the BitcoinRacing HGV Race Transporter drive past!” Charles MacKenzie, head of business development at BitcoinRacing commented.
