A further delay for Continental’s new HQ
Continental employees in the company hometown of Hannover, Germany should have moved into their new headquarters on Hans-Böckler-Allee some time back. When the topping-out ceremony took place at the end of 2019, the tyre maker and automotive supplier anticipated the building would be ready for occupancy in 2021 – the year of Continental’s 150th anniversary. But the pandemic upset these plans, and Continental announced a year ago that the new headquarters would open in summer 2022. We now know that this didn’t happen.
More recently, Continental spoke of presenting its headquarters to the public in mid-December 2022, but these plans are in doubt as well. Local newspaper the Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung (HAZ) reports that the premises probably won’t be completed until next year “due to a lack of materials.” According to the newspaper, the company does not wish to furnish a concrete date for the opening of the more than 100-million-euro corporate headquarters, which at least looks finished from the outside.
