Football: PTG becomes Parma Calcio main sponsor
Earlier this month, Prometeon Tyre Group (PTG) became the main sponsor of Italian football club Parma Calcio. Its multi-year agreement with the club, which currently plays in the second-tier Serie B league, gives the tyre maker a presence on players’ shirts and within their home stadium. Shirts will display the Prometeon logo rather than the Pirelli branding encountered on PTG tyres.
“With this agreement we get involved with a sport that arouses the passions of millions of people worldwide, alongside a prestigious football club that has clear ambitions for the future,” states Roberto Righi, PTG general manager. “We will support Parma Calcio in a growth project that looks to the future and shares our values. The project is also consistent with the development path that Prometeon Tyre Group is currently undertaking. We firmly believe in this partnership and we are sure that it will help us to establish an even closer bond with our suppliers and customers, and also with our 8,000 and more employees worldwide.”
An opportunity seized
Along with music, Righi considers sport an activity that “arouses people’s passions.” PTG threw its hat into the sports sponsorship ring several months ago when it became an official sponsor of the World Superbike Championship through to 2025. But whereas motorcycle racing tends to be a “niche sport,” Righi views football as having mainstream appeal. “So, when the opportunity arose, we decided to seize it.”
Even though Parma Calcio doesn’t currently play in Italy’s top football division, Righi considers the club interesting as it enjoys a “prestigious football tradition,” having won three Coppa Italia titles, one Italian Super Cup, one UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, two UEFA Cups and one UEFA Super Cup over the years. This tradition is paired with club’s owners who have a “forward-looking strategy.” Recently-appointed coach Fabio Pecchia, who has helped two teams progress into Serie A during his career, makes PTG’s partnership with Parma Calcio even more attractive.
