Sentury working to speed up Spanish factory construction
Sentury is in the process of declaring its Spanish factory plans as a strategic industrial project with the government of Garcia, Spain. The tyre maker hopes that its plant in the As Pontes region of Garcia will be able to use this method to obtain fast-track approvals to speed up the entire project’s construction.
According to media reports, Sentury’s As Pontes factory will use plenty of clean energy. In addition, the tyre company is considering a long-term power purchase agreement for renewable energy projects with Endesa, a Spanish power company.
In December 2021, Sentury announced that it would invest 520 million euros to build a plant in Spain with an annual production capacity of 12 million radial tyres for high-performance cars and light trucks. According to the plan, the Spanish factory will start construction before 2022, with an annual production capacity of 6 million tyres in 2024 and 12 million tyres in 2025.
The Spanish factory is part of Sentury’s “833plus” strategy. The tyre manufacturer hopes to deploy eight digital intelligent manufacturing bases, three R&D centres, and three experience centres and acquire an internationally renowned tyre company. The layout of the eight tyre factories is three in China, two in Thailand, and one in Europe, Africa and North America.
