Rishi Sunak launches prime ministerial campaign at Vaculug
Roughly 48 hours before his televised debate with fellow Conservative party leadership finalist Liz Truss, former chancellor Rishi Sunak visited leading independent retreading business Vaculug.
The launch event for Sunak’s prime-ministerial bid was held at Vaculug’s Grantham retread manufacturing operation and was attended by around 150 people. Rishi Sunak spoke for roughly 20 minutes before taking questions from the audience. Sunak’s speech focused on food security, the NHS and the economy.
Bankbench MP Andrew Bridgen and the former chief whip Mark Spencer were in attendance along with Matt Warman, the MP for Boston and Skegness.
Grantham is, of course, the hometown of former Conservative party leader and prime minister Margaret Thatcher.
