Italy’s Gambassi takes over BIPAVER presidency
Guido Gambassi, former deputy secretary of the Italian Tyre Retreaders Association (AIRP) and tyre dealers’ association Federpneus, takes over as president of European retreading association BIPAVER this month. He succeeds Finland’s Jukka Lankolainen and will serve as president for a two-year period. Gambassi, formerly BIPAVER vice-president, was appointed to the top job during the association’s General Assembly 2022, which took place as an online event on 28 June.
An important theme for Gambassi as he begins his presidency is the European Court of Justice’s decision to annul the 2018 decision to impose anti-dumping and anti-subsidy tariffs against truck tyres made in China. “The issue that is of most immediate concern to retreaders all over Europe is clearly the ruling on the annulment of European regulations on duties on industrial (truck & bus) tyre imports from China; in this regard, BIPAVER is monitoring developments with the help of national associations to assess what the European Commission’s decisions will be and what consequences they will have on the market, with the goal of being able to protect the retreading industry in every possible scenario.”
