Hankook OE on Audi Q4 e-tron & Q4 Sportback e-tron
Hankook Tire has expanded the portfolio of original equipment products it supplies to electric vehicles with tyres for two new Audi models, the Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron. These compact SUVs will leave the factory on Hankook Ventus S1 evo 3 ev tyres. Depending on model and equipment level, Audi will fit the Hankook tyre in 19- to 21-inch dimensions.
“As a development partner of Audi, we have implemented a number of successful projects together in recent years,” says Sanghoon Lee, president of Hankook Tire Europe. “Being able to help switch the portfolio over to electric vehicles by providing suitable tyres therefore means a lot to us. In doing so, we are also making an important contribution to increasingly sustainable mobility.”
About the tyre
To meet the specific demands of electric mobility, Hankook engineers equipped the Ventus S1 evo 3 ev with a double-layer casing made of a specially developed high-performance fibre. The tyre maker says this offers very high stability and ensures a low tare weight of the tyre relative to its size. Also important is the tread compound used in the Ventus S1 evo 3 ev, which is suited to very high torque.
An additional steel-based reinforcement is present in the bead area of the 20- and 21-inch versions of the tyre, which have a reduced flank height, to further increase sidewall rigidity. In addition to ensuring the tyre fits the rim precisely, Hankook says this also results in a particularly sporty and immediate steering response.
Hankook Sealguard sealing material is standard on the 20- and 21‑inch dimensions for the Audi Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron and automatically seals any punctures of up to 5mm in diameter in the tyre tread surface. Sealguard offers the advantage of being able to continue the journey without delays, even in the event of a nail puncture, for example. Vehicles equipped with Sealguard no longer need to carry a spare wheel and thus save weight. Hankook points out that Sealguard does not compromise on driving comfort, as the tyre’s basic construction does not differ from those lacking the sealant.
