Sumitomo Rubber signs UN Global Compact
Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd. has signed on to the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC). The world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative officially added the Japanese tyre and rubber products manufacturer to its registry of participating companies on 19 May 2022.
UNGS aims to “mobilise a global movement of sustainable companies and stakeholders to create the world we want” and is guided by ten principles that cover the protection of human rights, elimination of exploitative labour practices, preservation of the natural environment and the prevention of corruption.
These ten principles have been incorporated into Sumitomo Rubber Industries’ long-term sustainability policy, Driving Our Future Challenge 2050. The company unveiled this policy in August 2021 and uses it as a compass for achieving targets in key areas related to Environment, Social and Governance (ESG).
“Through our Driving Our Future Challenge 2050, we will put the Ten Principles of the UNGC into practice throughout our business activities in order to contribute to the solution of various social issues toward the ultimate realisation of a sustainable society,” states the company.
