Design awards for Continental SportContact 7
When it comes to aesthetics in the wheel sector, it’s understandable that the focus tends to be on the rims. But the SportContact 7 shows that tyres too can deliver exceptional form and design alongside superb performance. The Continental tyre has picked up a Red Dot Award for Product design and an iF Design Award.
“We are very happy that our sporty flagship tyre has not only been able to convince tyre fans with its performance, but that design experts from all over the world have also recognised our work with these awards,” says Enno Straten, head of Strategy, Analytics and Marketing Replacement Tyres EMEA at Continental.
When developing the SportContact 7, Continental’s design experts pursued three main objectives. The first was to develop a credible “seventh generation” for the long line of successful SportContact tyres. The second was to ensure that the new innovations in the tyre were clearly visible. And the third was to align the tyre’s look and feel with the way modern sports cars are designed.
Red Dot Award for product design
During a “search for good design and innovation,” 48 international members of the 2022 Red Dot Jury expertly, individually and comprehensively reviewed each of the products submitted from 60 countries for the Red Dot Award: Product Design. Only those products that convinced the experts with their outstanding design quality and ‘set new standards in the design industry’ were awarded prizes – including the Continental SportContact 7.
Dr Peter Zec, initiator and chief executive officer of Red Dot, commented on the 2022 competition, stating: “This competition year, I was particularly struck by the pronounced creativity evidenced by the award-winning products. That there are still designs that surprise in form and functionality is truly impressive and commendable.”
iF Design Award
The SportContact 7 tyre has also won this year’s world-renowned iF Design Award in the Product category for Automobile/Vehicle. The iF Design Award is presented once a year by the world’s oldest independent design institution, iF International Forum Design GmbH.
The Continental tyre impressed the independent, international jury of 132 experts with its innovative form and function.
