This year’s best summer tyres
During the past couple of months, we’ve followed the performances of just under 200 tyre models and sizes in comparative tests published by major car magazines, specialist tyre sites and motoring organisations. The results suggest that replacement tyre buyers are spoiled for choice, with the test experts giving 41 of the products – including some affordably-priced models – a rating of ‘very good’ or better. At the other end of the scale, they considered 16 tyres ‘not recommendable’.
The candidates participating in these 2022 summer tyre tests include a few new arrivals, most notably the Continental SportContact 7 and Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6, which both cut their tyre test teeth with solid wins and resounding recommendations.
When browsing these latest results, it’s worth bearing in mind that the tyres selected for testing – including those finishing lower down the table – are typically the pick of the bunch. If a tyre appears on a test team’s radar, it probably has at least a few things going for it. Beware instead the brands that never even get chosen.
