Pre-Q Galgo honours retreading ‘legend’ Majewski
Celebrating a career in retreading that spans well over 50 years, Pre-Q Galgo has honoured Bob Majewski at a retirement dinner in the US town of Newport, Kentucky.
Speaking of the man that Pre-Q Galgo describes as a “legend in the retreading industry,” vice-president Eduardo Nava stated: “I am thankful for our long-term business relationship and will forever cherish our friendship that has evolved over the years. Bob is truly a legend in the retreading industry, and his involvement will surely be missed, but after 50 plus years, he deserves to ‘Re-Tire’ and relax.”
Majewski started his career in a family-owned retreading plant before moving on to several national tyre and rubber companies. In 1994 he joined Sumerel Tire Service as part owner and vice-president, taking responsibility for manufacturing, operations, and marketing of the firm’s mould cure remanufactured tyres. Majewski designed the AcuTread Segmented Mold Cure Process and later formed the AcuTread Alliance Group (AAG) with two other partners to assist independent retreaders using the mould cure process to obtain their Technical License Agreement.
In 2002, Majewski became president of Sumerel Tire Service, and the company grew in line with demand for retreads, opening new operations. Sumerel sold the AcuTread process to long-time partner Wonderland Tire in 2014, and this firm acquired Sumerel Tire Service and its subsidiaries last year.
Majewski was inducted into the TIA (Tire Industry Association) hall of fame in 2018.
