Michelin Guide Moscow offline – activities in Russia suspended
Michelin hasn’t only halted its tyre production in and exports to Russia in response to the current situation in Ukraine. It has announced that the Michelin Guide team has suspended all restaurant recommendation activities in the country.
In a statement, Michelin says it is no longer promoting Moscow as a tourist destination, and as a result it will not update its selection of Moscow restaurants this year. Projects to develop the Michelin Guide in Russia have also been suspended for the time being.
Last October, Michelin Guide announced its “long-awaited arrival” in Russia with the launch of the Michelin Guide Moscow, a debut acknowledging the “rapid development in gastronomic culture in Russia over the past 30 years.” The inaugural Moscow Michelin Star ceremony took place on 14 October 2021, with two restaurants gaining two stars and seven restaurants a single star. Michelin Guide gave its Green Star to three restaurants and named 15 Bib Gourmand establishments.
Although Michelin Guide has taken its culinary recommendations for Moscow offline for now, it stresses that this measure does not call into question the talents of the chefs and staff and the award-winning restaurants.
