Gamer, YouTuber propel GT Radial car to Fun Cup podium
Two social media influencers helped GT Radial car number 97 to take third place in the second round of the 2022 Fun Cup Endurance Championship at Oulton Park. Vlogger and esports gamer Jimmy Broadbent, popular YouTuber Steve Alvarez Brown, and Giti Tire’s own senior test engineer, Ellis Hadley piloted the car in the four-hour race. The number 97 is driven by different racing legends, celebrities and influencers across the season.
In an action-packed four-hour race, which saw the safety car come out twice and ultimately create a final 11-minute sprint between eight teams, Hadley held his nerve. As he drove into the garage he said: “I didn’t know where we were until we were back in the pitlane, certainly didn’t think it was third.”
Broadbent, who has 798k YouTube subscribers plus 110k Instagram followers, added: “Basically its always an awesome time to race in the GT Radial car, there’s a great mix of having fun and taking it seriously. To come away with a podium makes the whole event even sweeter.”
“It was my first-time driving Oulton Park and the Fun Cup cars and so there was a lot to learn, but I was very well looked after,” concluded Brown, who has 718k YouTube subscribers plus 85.2k Instagram followers.
“Ellis provided solid advice whenever needed and had telemetry and video footage ready to go on request, this all made me feel at ease.”
This was the second race of the 2022 Fun Cup Endurance Championship, for which Giti Tire remains the Official Tyre Partner for the seventh consecutive year.
With seven more meetings planned across the UK through to the season climax in October, GT Radial will continue to invite people with social media influence to enjoy the unique experience and help promote the brand.
Icons who enjoyed time behind the wheel of GT Radial car number 97 in 2021 include Freddie Hunt, professional racing driver and son of Formula One legend James Hunt, Honda TT legend John McGuiness and Steve Peat, renowned multiple World and British Downhill Mountain Bike Champion.
All cars in the competition run on GitiCompete GTR2 tyres which form part of a comprehensive range of competition racing tyres which are used in events around the world. The proven technology findings are adapted to further develop its everyday passenger car portfolios.
