Tyre fire at Big Atom address

On 17 February 2022, Cheshire Fire Service sent two crews to tackle “a blaze at a tyre recycling site in Ellesmere Port”. The fire engines from Ellesmere Port and Powey Lane attended the scene in Canalside, Ellesmere Port not far from the Stanlow oil refinery.
Tyre recycling and pyrolysis firm Big Atom’s address is Canalside, Oil Sites Rd, Ellesmere Port CH65 4EN. Tyres & Accessories asked for confirmation that the fire was indeed at Big Atom, but a spokesperson didn’t confirm that a fire affected the company.
According to firefighters, “The fire was sited in a commercial extraction unit. Electricity was isolated, all people on the site were accounted for and firefighters in breathing apparatus used hose reel jets to tackle the fire as well as from a gantry.”
They also checked adjacent plant and equipment for signs of fire spread. 10,000 litres of water was used to put out the flames.
