Bridgestone invests in tyre sensor & data company Tyrata
Bridgestone Americas has become a minority shareholder in tyre sensor and data management company Tyrata, Inc. It says this partnership will “enable Bridgestone to offer more sustainable, efficient and cost-effective tyre management practices for fleets, including last- and middle-mile delivery fleets.”
Using an automated and drive-over solution that measures tyre tread, Tyrata collects tyre wear data and provides actionable, cloud-based analytics. “With Tyrata’s unique technology, more fleets will have the opportunity to optimise their tyre programmes, enhancing safety and reducing environmental footprint,” says Brian Goldstine, president of mobility solutions, Bridgestone Americas. “Our partnership with Tyrata will allow us to strengthen and expand our portfolio of tyre management solutions to fleets of all sizes as we work toward a safer, more efficient and more sustainable mobility future.”
Renders manual yard checks obsolete
Tyrata IntelliTread technology replaces manual yard-checks with a drive-over system that features weather- and dirt-resistant sensors. Bridgestone says this system is easy-to-install and offers more consistent and accurate tyre tread depth measurements. The system can also detect irregular wear patterns.
Bridgestone will leverage data and insights provided by the IntelliTread platform to help fleets maximise the service life of all tyre assets, reduce tyre-related downtime and promote sustainable tyre performance best practices. ”The Bridgestone investment represents a very significant milestone in the validation of Tyrata’s technology and business model,” says Jesko von Windheim, chief executive officer of Tyrata, Inc. “We are thrilled to be working with the Bridgestone team and to now have access to one of the largest fleet channels in the world.”
Tyrata technology will complement Bridgestone Americas’ existing portfolio of tyre and fleet management solutions, including: IntelliTire, a commercial truck tire pressure monitoring system; Reach, a cloud-connected platform that effectively manages fleet service events; and Azuga, a fleet management software system featuring GPS tracking, video telematics and driver behaviour management.
