Black Bear visits flagship plant site with potential investor
Following the fire that destroyed its first pilot plant in February 2019 and hurled the company into operational and financial difficulties, in May 2021 Black Bear Carbon announced plans to build a new flagship plant within the Chemelot Industrial Park in Limburg, the Netherlands and announced having raised funding of 7.5 million euros as a first step in a 78 million euro fundraising campaign.
The company envisioned the facility in Limburg as the first of many to be built globally and put forward mid-2023 as the date it would become operational. Black Bear took a further step towards realising its plan on 23 March 2022 when visiting the Chemelot site with potential investor NEOS Direct Lending.
In a Linkedin post, Black Bear stated that “if things go the way we believe they will, we will start building our plant at the Chemelot Industrial Park.” Álvaro Torres Centellas, business development manager at Chemelot, showed Black Bear chief executive officer Victor Vreeken, chief financial officer Geert Glimmerveen and the NEOS team around the site and showed them the future factory site. Black Bear commented that “it was very impressive to hear about the Chemelot strategy and its plans for the future.”
