BKT’s expanded Bhuj plant enters operation
Earlier today, BKT produced the first tyre following extensions at its Bhuj site in India. The expansion project’s completion represents the culmination of an investment valued at close to £80 million
Following the project’s approval at a Board of Directors meeting on 8 February 2021, BKT broke ground at the 4.85-hectare site on 22 May. The tyre maker now expects to achieve the planned 50,000 tonne manufacturing capacity within six months. This added output will satisfy growing global demand, particularly in the agricultural sector.
“The worldwide demand for agricultural tyres is on the upswing” comments Arvind Poddar, chairman and managing director of BKT. “There is a strong indication that growth in this sector is here to stay and in keeping with the company vision of growth and quality, the present expansion would meet the expectations from our loyal customers.
“During one of the most difficult times that the world has seen by way of the pandemic in 2021, we adopted a strategy that helped us satisfy even our most demanding customers and deliver our products as per their requirements,” Poddar continues. “We truly feel that it is time to act and put our best foot forward to meet our commitment to the rising needs of our customers. This expansion is our answer to the universal demand.”
The Bhuj plant is situated in the State of Gujarat, around 40 miles from the Port of Mundra on the Arabian Sea. This facilitates the shipping of BKT products to over 160 countries around the world.
