TÜV SÜD highlights GT Radial performance
Giti Tire has published details of independent tests undertaken by TÜV SÜD for both the GT Radial SportActive 2 and GT Radial FE2 tyre lines. It reports that this testing showed “excellent results against leading brands and direct competitors’ products.”
GT Radial SportActive 2
TÜV SÜD fitted the GT Radial SportActive 2 to a VW Golf in size 235/35ZR19 91Y XL for benchmark testing against the Hankook Ventus S1 Evo³, Kumho Ecsta PS71, Nexen N’fera Sport and Toyo Proxes Sport. Giti Tire shares that the testing specialist found “better or similar results” in aquaplaning straight-line, wet braking distance from 80 to 20 km/h, dry handling and dry braking distance from 100 to 0 km/h.
When launched in March 2021, the manufacturer reported the GT Radial SportActive 2 delivered a circa 15 per cent improvement in wet braking, ten per cent enhancement in wet handling and aquaplaning and a five per cent boost in mileage compared to its predecessor, the GT Radial SportActive. This saw the passenger car and SUV range achieve an EU label A grade in wet grip, B-D in rolling resistance and a low external noise of just 69db.
GT Radial FE2
TÜV SÜD again turned to the trusty VW Golf when testing the GT Radial FE2, evaluating the tyre in size 205/50R17 93W XL against the Hankook Ventus Prime³, Kumho Ecsta HS51, Nexen N’fera Primus and Toyo Proxes CF2.
Stated key targets for the GT Radial FE2’s development was to deliver a green and energy efficient tyre which remained quiet and comfortable, all while building on wet and dry performance.
In Giti-run tests, the tyre registered a 15 per cent improvement in wet braking, 12 per cent upgrade in wet handling and a seven per cent increase in aquaplaning resistance against the original GT Radial Champiro FE1 pattern. It also delivers around Five per cent more mileage. The advancements resulted in an A rating in wet grip across the entire range, and B-D in rolling resistance for passenger car and SUV sizes.
Proof of performance
“We are thrilled that independent testing by TÜV SÜD, a recognised and respected institution, has verified the quality of our two mass market UHP and HP tyres,” says Fabio Pecci-Boriani, senior product manager PCR, SUV, Light Truck for Giti Tire (Europe). “The test results show that the GT Radial SportActive 2 and GT Radial FE2 is better or extremely close to the direct competition, an additional evidence of the quality of our products and hard evidence to our customers and end users of proof of performance.”
Giti Tire designed and engineered the GT Radial SportActive 2 and GT Radial FE2 at its Research and Development Centre in Hannover, Germany, with testing at the company’s MIRA facility in the UK as well as key locations in Germany and Spain.
