Continental tyres OE on Mercedes EQA
Mercedes-Benz has selected Continental tyres as original equipment for its Mercedes EQA. The new full electric SUV will roll from the line on Continental EcoContact 6 tyres in 18- to 20-inch rim diameters, depending on the feature package. For customers wanting a winter tyre, Mercedes is also offering the WinterContact TS 850 P.
The EQA wears the EcoContact 6 in the following sizes: 235/55 R18 100T; 235/50 R19 103T; 235/45 R20 100T. The WinterContact TS 850 P is available as a size 215/60 R18 98T fitment.
Continental shares that it has lowered the rolling resistance of the EcoContact 6 by 15 per cent compared with the previous model. A rubber compound optimised for low rolling resistance reduces tyre deformation caused by heavy loads while driving. Lower rolling resistance means less energy consumption, and for electric vehicles this can increase the range by three to four per cent. Continental also singles out short braking distance, excellent cornering stability even at high speeds and good mileage as key EcoContact 6 features.
The WinterContact TS 850 P for the Mercedes EQA comes with Continental run-flat technology as standard, and this is also available for the EcoContact 6 as an option. In case of tyre damage, it prevents the sidewall from getting trapped between the road and the rim, in which case the tyre can slip off. Drivers can thus continue for up to 50 miles in order to get to a garage or workshop.
