New Alfa Romeo Tonale rolls on Pirelli P Zero tyres
Pirelli is supplying a specially developed edition of its P Zero tyre for fitment on the new Alfa Romeo Tonale SUV range. Alfa’s first production electric vehicle, which comes in hybrid and plug-in hybrid editions as well as diesel and petrol ICE models, will roll on size 235/40R20 96V XL Pirelli P Zero tyres, the tyre manufacturer’s performance range.
Pirelli says the P Zero tyres for the Tonale were developed under its Perfect Fit strategy to emphasise the car’s sporty traits and safe performance in dry asphalt and wet. The tyre is marked AR to certify its synergy with the new Alfa model.
The teams of the two Milanese brands cooperated in the development of the Tonale, beginning with the concept model shown at the Geneva Motor Show in 2019. The production tyre used virtual analysis and development and validation of their performance in tests carried out on Stellantis’s Balocco track and Pirelli’s track at Vizzola Ticino. The tyre is therefore an Italian production, designed in Pirelli’s Milan R&D facility and produced at its advanced Settimo Torinese production facility.
Pirelli and Alfa Romeo began collaborating around a century ago with the advent of the car and the first racing competitions. The Pirelli Superflex Cord was the tyre fitted on the Alfa Romeo GT Tipo P2 that in 1925 won the first Car World Championship, driven by motorsport legends Antonio Ascari, Giuseppe Campari and Gastone Brilli Peri who won the decisive race on the Monza circuit. The brands are united by their association with performance and sportiness, on the road and track alike.
