Land Rover Defender rolls out of factories on Conti CrossContact RX crossover tyre
Land Rover has specified the Continental CrossContact RX crossover tyre for original fitment on all Defender models, including the plug-in hybrid. The tyre manufacturer developed the CrossContact RX for crossover and sport utility vehicles (SUVs) with a sporty performance profile also suitable for off-road use. Conti is supplying three variations of the tyre in one 19” and two 22” sizes.
The CrossContact RX achieves sporty handling characteristics in a variety of road conditions. It boosts traction in wet conditions, with a short braking distance proving its high level of safety. The tread pattern and reinforced sidewall protect the tyre from damage caused by stone chips, for example, and when driving on moderate terrain. It also features a sipe arrangement that reduces noise, The sidewall is designed to enable a precise steering response.
Conti has increased the profile of its SUV/4×4 tyre range recently, with the inaugural series of off-road electric vehicle racing championship Extreme E running on tyres derived from the CrossContact range. A special edition Land Rover Defender, which appeared in the 25th James Bond film, No Time To Die, was exclusively fitted with 22-inch CrossContact RX tyres in a run of 300 models.
The CrossContact RX is available for the Land Rover Defender as an original equipment tyre and from dealers in numerous countries including the UK, in the following sizes:
- 255/65 R19 FR 114V XL
- 275/45 R22 FR 112W XL
- HL275/45 R22 FR 115W XL
