Tyre Stewardship Australia praises new recycling initiative
Australia’s government has launched ReMade in Australia, a new national effort to encourage industry to transform recycled waste into productive outcomes. Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA) has expressed its strong agreement with the campaign.
“TSA couldn’t be more supportive of the initiative. We believe that by turning waste products like end-of-life tyres into a valuable commodity, will help drive a more circular economy, and create accountability across the tyre value chain.”
With the waste export ban on whole and baled tyres taking effect on 1 December 2021, TSA emphasises that it is “now important more than ever” for those active in Australia’s tyre sector to “take ownership” of the waste generated and find sustainable markets for end-of-life tyres and tyre-derived products. “With $8 million (£4.2 million) committed to date to study and develop innovations to manage the 56 million end of life passenger tyres generated in Australia each year, let’s all work together to breathe new life into old things.”
