March launch for Yokohama Sport V107
Yokohama Rubber reports that its Yokohama Advan Sport V107 will be available in the aftermarket from early next year. It will launch this flagship tyre worldwide from March 2022 in an initial range of 30 dimensions for 18- to 23-inch rim diameters. Including original equipment fitments, Yokohama will offer the V107 in a total of 43 sizes at this time but intends to gradually grow the range up to approximately 80 original equipment and replacement market dimensions by the end of next year.
Yokohama is targeting the Advan Sport V107 at three key markets – premium high-performance cars, premium high-performance SUVs, and premium electric vehicles. The Advan Sport V107 succeeds the V105 and was developed in collaboration with manufacturers of premium vehicles. with testing taking place at Yokohama Rubber’s test center at the Nürburgring; original equipment deliveries to Mercedes-AMG and BMW M began last year.
Improvements in wet/dry performance, steering stability
While following the Advan Sport V105 concept of “providing a perfect balance of driving performance combined with superior comfort and safety characteristics”, Yokohama says the new tyre’s dry/wet performance and steering stability surpass the levels achieved by its predecessor. An asymmetric tread pattern help deliver the variable performance required from the tread’s inner and outer sides, and the compound used in the V107 incorporates technologies that Yokohama cultivated whilst developing original equipment versions of the tyre for OEMs. The tyre maker comments that these tread and compound features combine to deliver “strong grip on dry and wet road surfaces.”
The Advan Sport V107 applies the matrix body-ply structure used in its predecessor. It also is Yokohama Rubber’s first replacement tyre to incorporate (in some sizes) the company’s power crown belt cover structure that uses a high-rigidity aramid fibre as well as a newly-improved mound profile that strengthens the tyre’s gripping power. Yokohama says these new design features “dramatically increase the tyres’ contribution to the excellent steering stability and comfort at high speeds that are essential qualities for high-power premium cars.”
The V107 sidewall features a new design that, in Yokohama’s words, provides “the logo visibility and upscale image appropriate for a global flagship tyre.” In addition, the letters SUV feature on the sidewall of dimensions intended for these vehicles.
Yokohama will officially launch the V107 during an online event in February.
