India JV about to start making Mitas two-wheeler tyres
Despite delays during the pandemic, the joint venture plant set up in India by Yogesh Agencies & Investments Private Limited (YAIPL) and Trelleborg Wheel Systems (TWS) is now gearing up for deliveries of Mitas two-wheeler tyres. Paolo Pompei, president of TWS, recently confirmed that production will soon start.
The SYAM Trelleborg Tires LLP facility is located in Bharuch, Gujarat State and respectively 76:24 owned by the Mahansaria family and Trelleborg. Mahansaria will distribute Bharuch-made tyres throughout India as well as in the SAARC markets of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, the Maldives, Nepal and Pakistan.
Keen to enter India’s fast-growing two-wheeler tyre market, YAIPL signed an agreement with TWS to form the SYAM Trelleborg joint venture in the second half of 2018. TWS viewed its investment in the project as a means of elevating its motorcycle tyre operations “to a new level” whilst increasing production capacity and expanding global footprint. At the time, the partners anticipated deliveries commencing at the end of 2020.
