Bridgestone OE on Cupra Born

Bridgestone is a tyre partner for the Cupra Born, the brand’s first all-electric vehicle. The tyre maker has therefore developed custom-engineered Bridgestone Turanza Eco summer tyres, Blizzak winter tyres and Weather Control all-season tyres for the Born.

The Cupra Born is available with a choice of Turanza Eco options, including 215/55R18, 215/50R19 and 215/45R20; Bridgestone comments that the 19-inch fitment is a completely new size for the market. The tyre maker supplies the Blizzak LM001 in 215/55R18 and the Weather Control A005 in 215/50R19. All these OEM tyres, excepting the smallest Turanza Eco dimension, contain B-Seal solution, an automatic sealant technology that maintains air retention in the event of nails, stones or other objects piercing the tyre.

The bespoke Turanza Eco tyres feature Bridgestone’s Enliten technology, which reduces rolling resistance by up to 30 per cent and tyre weight by up to 20 per cent. Bridgestone adds that they offer excellent wet weather performance and on-road stability, which is paramount when considering the heavy load on a rear traction vehicle.

Bridgestone utilised its Virtual Tyre Development technology during the journey from design to completed product, reducing the number of prototype tyres required. Virtual Tyre Development cuts raw material consumption and CO2 emissions by approximately 60 per cent while speeding up to market time by 50 per cent, making tyre development more sustainable, efficient, accurate and flexible.

Bridgestone views electric mobility as a huge opportunity to reduce CO2 emissions and make mobility more environmentally sustainable, and says this latest project with Cupra further cements the company’s commitment to help shape a sustainable future of mobility.

In November, Goodyear shared that it is supplying three sizes of its EfficientGrip Performance – 215/55R18, 215/50R19 and 215/45R20 – as original equipment tyres for the Cupra Born.
