Renewed ISO 14001 for Marangoni’s Rovereto plant
Italian retreading specialist Marangoni S.p.A. reports that certification body Certiquality renewed its Rovereto factory’s ISO 14001 environmental management certification on 15 October. Renewal followed a thorough audit of Marangoni’s Environmental Management System.
Marangoni views the renewal of its ISO 14001 certification as an “important acknowledgement” of its decision to task an external party, in this case Certiquality, to audit its procedures in order to verify their compliance with globally recognised high standards of quality. The company describes its regularly updated Environmental Management System as a “useful tool for the whole organisation” and says that the attention it pays to managing processes and technologies “goes hand-in-hand” with an emphasis on the sustainability of its products and services.
Tyre retreading, posits Marangoni, is currently the most virtuous example of circular economy in the sector, as it allows for a saving of 80 per cent of raw materials and 70 per cent of the energy and CO2 emissions used when compared with the production of new tyres.
Based upon data collected by leading industry associations, Marangoni calculates that tyre retreading prevents 4.5 million tonnes of tyres and nearly 4 billion litres of oil and derivatives from being released into the environment every year around the world and allows the transport industry to save approximately £7.5 billion, thereby generating a local value-added business that minimises the need to import expensive raw materials.
