Continental launches ContiRoadAttack 4 ‘hyper-touring’ tyre
It’s now 16 years since Continental introduced its first-generation ContiRoadAttack, and during this time we’ve made our acquaintance with a whole range of jauntily-named innovations. The launch of the original tyre back in 2005 saw the arrival of Zero Degree technology, while Continental gave us two – TractionSkin and MultiGrip – when it released a second generation five years later. Continental brought out the ContiRoadAttack 2 EVO in 2013 and in doing so introduced us to RainGrip technology. We got to know EasyHandling technology four years ago when the next generation tyre arrived. Continental is now gearing up to bring us its latest incarnation, the ContiRoadAttack 4. Get ready for GripLimitFeedback technology, too.
Introducing ContiRoadAttack 4, Continental says the tyre “combines two worlds”. By this, the tyre maker means that it’s an all-new tyre design that “easily tops its competitors” on the traditional sport-touring metrics of mileage, comfort, stability and wet grip. But at the same time, it also offers “new levels of pure sporting ability, essential for the latest high-performance sport-touring motorcycles.” Continental boldly states the performance of ContiRoadAttack 4 is so good, it calls it a “hyper-touring tyre.”
New compound & pattern
ContiRoadAttack 4 features an all-new compound and updated tread pattern, and Continental says these give a “massive boost to wet weather performance, with superb grip in all conditions and even better dry grip that rivals pure sport tyres.”
As for GripLimitFeedback, its remit is to provide early feedback in high lean angles. Continental explains that this technology consists of a new slick area in the upper tread shoulder allowing maximum grip and high precision; the tyre maker speaks of class-topping cornering grip at high lean angles.
Continental has developed ContiRoadAttack 4 for modern and powerful sports tourers, but it also sees the tyre as a means of enhancing the performance of retro touring bikes. The following dimensions will be available from January 2022 onwards: front: 120/70 ZR 17 M/C, rear: 160/60 ZR 17 M/C, 180/55 ZR 17 M/C, 190/50 ZR 17 M/C, 190/55 ZR 17 M/C.
