Hankook launches Dynapro MT2 off-road range
The latest off-road product from Hankook Tire has arrived. The Dynapro MT2 is billed as the “the most capable and extreme off-road tyre Hankook has ever offered” and arrives equipped with the latest innovations from the manufacturer’s Technodome R&D centre. At launch this successor to the Dynapro MT is available in 19 popular dimensions that cover the 15- to 19-inch rim diameter range, with white ‘Dynapro’ sidewall lettering available on some sizes.
With the POR (Professional Off-Road) identifier on the sidewall, this latest member of the Dynapro family has been developed with extreme off-road capabilities in mind. Hankook comments that there’s “good reason” why the tyre is MT, or mud terrain, designated. The manufacturer used 3D simulation software to develop the Dynapro MT2’s Terrain Strike Tread Design to offer an aggressive, high-void tread pattern. The result is an optimisation of the tyre’s traction on mud, dirt, rock, sand and gravel surfaces has been optimised.
Hankook’s new split mould technology makes the Dynapro MT2 even more robust than its predecessor, making it appear as if seamlessly cast from a single mould. The wraparound tread along with new Sidewall Protection Shields both work to provide extra biting edges when crawling over rocks as well as additional rubber gauge construction to protect against punctures. Interlocked tread blocks extending to the centre of the sidewall help to minimise damage to the tyre shoulder caused by off-road abrasions, whilst increasing overall rigidity and traction.
“We are delighted to offer off-road driving enthusiasts a purpose-built tyre designed to take on the toughest terrain, while still performing well on standard roads,” says Sanghoon Lee, president, Hankook Tire Europe.
Pattern, compound & casing
The V-shaped shoulder blocks that interlock perfectly with the terrain further enhance the Dynapro MT2’s high traction under extreme conditions. The self-cleaning cross grooves, with integrated stone ejectors, help to efficiently clear the tread of debris to increase grip and protect against stone drilling and puncturing.
The natural rubber content in the Dynapro MT2’s compound is not only produced sustainably, but also increases the elasticity of the rubber compound. This allows the tread to better adapt to smaller irregularities and offers maximum grip, whilst further reducing susceptibility to breakage and cuts. Thanks to their high surface density, the fillers used also increase the viscoelastic properties of the rubber compound and improve the grip on rough terrain as well as on standard roads. In combination, the tread design and tread compound reduce rolling noise on the road, offering a quieter, more comfortable ride.
A particularly robust casing construction ensures off-road stability and precision as well as a comfortable driving experience on asphalt. The seamless high-performance bead wire helps to keep the tyre securely on the rim even when driving on difficult terrain with lower tyre pressures.
POR exemption
As a POR tyre, the Dynapro MR2 was specifically developed for rough terrain and is thus exempt from EU tyre label legislation. And although it doesn’t bear the 3PMSF symbol, it may also be driven in winter in countries where winter tyres are compulsory. The tyre does, however, include the M+S marking on the sidewall.
The Hankook Dynapro MT2 is produced in the following Europe-specific (metric) sizes: from 15 to 17 inches, with tread widths from 215 to 315 mm in aspect ratios from 85 to 70, each with speed rating Q. US-specific sizes: Tyre diameters from 28 to 35 inches with tread widths between 8.50 and 12.50 inches for rim diameters from 15 to 20 inches, each with speed rating Q.
