Continental tyres for Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance
Continental shares that the new Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance is being delivered with its tyres as original equipment. The plug-in hybrid, which is the most powerful roadgoing AMG vehicle ever, wears the SportContact 6 at the front in size 265/40 ZR 20 (104Y) XL and 295/35 ZR 20 (105Y) XL on the rear wheels. Both dimensions are marked MO1B on the sidewall to denote their OE status.
Mercedes-AMG debuted the car at this year’s IAA show in Munich. Beneath its body, the AMG 4.0-litre V8 biturbo is joined by an AMG-developed electric motor paired with an ultra-light and directly cooled high-performance battery. These deliver 470 kW plus 150 kW (639 hp + 204 hp) and a maximum torque of 1.470 Nm.
The original equipment SportContact 6 tyres are manufactured at Continental’s Korbach factory in Germany, which specialises in larger rim diameter sizes and high-performance products. They feature force vectoring technology – Continental says this provides excellent steering precision – and the Black Chili compound, which is specially tailored to the vehicle for the best possible contact between tyre and road surface. It also enables shorter braking distances and faster acceleration in low and high temperatures and in both wet and dry weather.
“In order to bring the exceptional performance of the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance safely to the road at all times, the tyres must be the perfect match for the vehicle as the only connection to the asphalt,” says Dr Holger Lange, Head of tyre development for Continental’s original equipment business. “In order to precisely record and optimally implement the specific requirements for each vehicle model, we work closely with our customers right from the vehicle development phase. In this way, we ensure that our tyres precisely meet our customers’ technical specifications and thus make an important contribution to driving performance.”
Continental comments that every third vehicle in Europe is delivered with Continental tyres.
