Pirelli Scorpion ATR tyres fitted on new North American Ford SUVs

Pirelli’s Scorpion ATR tyres have been tuned to the latest Ford models

A new version of the Pirelli Scorpion ATR has been designed exclusively for the latest Ford models, the Bronco Sport and Maverick. The fitments, designed to enhance the new SUV and compact truck’s performance, follow Pirelli’s tailor-made tyres for the Ford F-150. The tyre manufacturer has supplied specially developed products to more than fifteen different North American Ford models over the last 20 years.

Ford set challenging targets for the special edition of the Pirelli Scorpion ATR tyres. It asked Pirelli to develop an all-terrain tyre with high off-road capabilities, able to combine the typical performance, handling and comfort characteristics of an all-season tyre. Pirelli said its engineers focused their work on two specific areas: the tread pattern and the compound. As a result the tyre is very versatile, with an aggressive tread pattern designed to remove water, mud and stones off-road, while also reducing tyre noise on the road. The new generation tread compound is designed to improve handling and braking in the wet, while also improving snow performance.

Pirelli deployed its most advanced simulation and engineering tools to meet Ford’s specification targets at every iteration of development. It said that this approach increased development speed as well as optimised tyre performance significantly, reducing the number of physical tyres tested.

The Pirelli Scorpion ATR tyres are supplied in size 225/65R17.
