Yokohama-backed Chelsea FC secure more major silverware
Yokohama has congratulated Chelsea on its victory over Villareal on penalties in the European Super Cup. The tyre manufacturer has backed Chelsea since 2015, commencing with a multiyear shirt partnership worth around £40 million per season. Since the end of the initial deal, Yokohama has continued its relationship with the London club, becoming its official tyre partner in 2020. Since Yokohama launched its relationship with Chelsea, the club has also won two Premier League titles, the European Champions League, the Europa League, and the FA Cup, giving both the club and Yokohama major worldwide exposure.
Chelsea’s victory over Villareal in the teams’ first ever competitive fixture took place at Belfast’s Windsor Park in the European Super Cup. The game ended 1-1 at the end of 90 minutes with no further goals were added in extra time. The Blues went on to lift the trophy for the second time in the club’s history 6-5 on penalties.
“Our congratulations go to everyone at Chelsea FC,” comments David Seward, managing director, Yokohama HPT Ltd. “Winning the European Champions League at the end of last season was a fantastic conclusion to the year and it’s great to see that momentum has continued with similar success at the start of this year. We look forward to another thrilling season supporting everyone at the club.”
