Yokohama and The Classic return to TV
Yokohama returned as official tyre partner to The Classic, the world’s biggest classic motor racing festival hosted by Silverstone, this year. The tyre manufacturer, whose flagship Advan range has wide-ranging motorsport and classic car models and fitments, welcomed both classic car enthusiasts and families to the event, presenting a range of eye-catching rare vehicles at its stand and co-hosting the Chelsea FC Skills Zone. The football club held football skill sessions for 250 children with coaching by the Chelsea FC Foundation and giveaways and prizes. Action from the track is making it to TV screens this week on ITV4, with highlights broadcast tonight (11 August) at 8pm and on Thursday (12 August) at the same time and channel.
More than a hundred car clubs from around the country gathered to display classic and rare models, while fellow attendees marvelled at the stunning array of automotive legacies.
A pristine Triumph TR2A took home this year’s Yokohama Club Car of the Show award. The brand itself displayed a selection of cars that reflected its diverse range of road and motorsport credentials, including an incredibly rare Toyota Supra Mk4 TRD 3000GT sporting an impressive ADVAN livery.
On the track, crowds flocked to see the wheel-to-wheel action which included Alex Brundle and Gary Pearson teaming up behind the wheel of a Lola T70, to take a thrilling victory in the Yokohama Trophy for Masters Historic Sports Cars.
Commenting on the weekend, marketing manager of Yokohama HPT, James Brown, said: “Another fantastic year at The Classic and what an event it was! It’s a pleasure to meet so many like-minded individuals with a real passion for classic cars and motor racing. The range of modern and classic cars on display was quite remarkable and the racing action was truly magnificent. Once again it proved to be a fantastic platform for us to show off our extensive range of tyres for modern and classic road cars as well as those racing on track.”
For viewers unable to catch the first two instalments of the highlights, Parts 1 and 2 will also be aired on Sunday 15 August at 18:15 and will also be available via the ITV hub app.
