Insa Turbo researching solvent-free retread adhesion
Insa Turbo is embarking on research into the “…development of a new rubber-rubber adhesion system for the reuse of end-of-life tyres” in order to improve its products and make them “even more sustainable”.
According to the company, the Ecobonding project is financed by the Center for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI) and co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and aims to develop a new way of adhering the new treads to re-used casings.
The new method aims to make retreading even more environmentally friendly by reduces the amount of chemicals involved in the process. Specifically, the new system aims to replace current procedures, which centre on solvent-based rubber adhesives. Moving forward, the idea is to replace these with ”sustainable and environmentally friendly products”.
Currently, Insa Turbo reports that it manufactures more than 3,000 tyres a day. In addition to European exports, Insa Turbo reportedly maintains “a solid position” in competitive markets such as the US and Canada as well as in Latin American, African and Asian countries.
