Toyo heading to the Nürburgring for 24 Hour Race
Toyo Tire is heading to the
for the 49th ADAC Total 24H Race on 3-6 June 2021. The Japanese tyre manufacturer will supply specially developed tyres to Novel Racing, following up its entry in the delayed 2020 edition of the race for which it signed a partnership agreement with Toyo. Toyo developed its new rubber for Novel’s Lexus RC F and Toyota Supra GT4, entries tuned by Nürburgring based Ring Racing, which has been building cars for the circuit for more than a decade.
The Nürburgring 24 Hours is one of the most demanding endurance races in the world. Consisting of two courses, the F1 Grand Prix circuit, and the Nordschleife, the Nürburgring has elevation changes of more than 300m with more than 70 corners in every 25km lap. The Eifel circuit presents a unique challenge. Due to the mountain microclimate, drivers in the 24H race can also expect sudden weather changes to complicate their race strategy. Extracting the maximum performance for 24 hours in unpredictable conditions, challenges both car and driver, providing an opportunity for Toyo to test its tyres in extreme and variable conditions.
Both race cars supported by Toyo start the 24H race having already achieved good results. In this year’s Nürburgring Endurance Series, held on the Nordschleife course, the Toyota Supra GT4 finished second in class in round two, while the Lexus RC F finished first in class in round three.
Novel Corporation is a specialist Lexus tuner, which develops and sells high-performance parts for the Lexus F model. It has been participating in the race since 2016 and got the second and third places in the SP8 class in 2018.
Toyo states that its motorsport involvement supports the improvement of tyre performance globally by incorporating objective and experiential data from extreme use into product development.
