Mobox: Bridgestone aims to grow car subscriptions twentyfold
The mobox all-inclusive monthly tyre subscription service debuted in the UK in 2020, several years after Bridgestone first piloted the model in France. Bridgestone now intends to increase the global number of mobox subscription contracts twentyfold (compared to 2019) by 2023. While additional subscriptions in Europe will aid this expansion, the company will primarily achieve growth by rolling out the European mobox model in the USA and Japan.
During the same timeframe, Bridgestone also plans to approximately double the number of contracts for truck and bus fleet subscriptions, which are already widely used by customers in Japan, Europe and the USA. To this end, the group will “optimise services to fit customer needs in each region.”
Webfleet contracts to double or treble
Similarly, Bridgestone intends to grow Webfleet Solutions. More than 50,000 companies worldwide, primarily in Europe, currently operate fleets that are connected via Webfleet. According to Bridgestone, Webfleet Solutions “already commands the number one position” within the region. “By further strengthening this foundation, the group plans to increase connected vehicles to more than 1 million by 2023.” Bridgestone’s best-case scenario is 1.1 million vehicles by 2023, up 32.5 per cent from the 830,000 under contract this year.
Bridgestone has already commenced its global Webfleet expansion programme. The goal is “doubling or tripling the number of contracted units” and to “establish a leading global position for the Webfleet Solutions business.” It will consider further business expansion through strategic partnerships and mergers/acquisitions in North America in order to scale up its fleet solutions.
