Sava launches All Weather car tyre
Goodyear brand Sava has launched a new all-season tyre with fitments between 14 and 18 inches. The Sava All Weather is designed for versatile performance in varied road conditions. It carries the Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake symbol (3PMSF), certifying its winter performance. The tyre is the latest all-season product from parent company Goodyear, whose 2020 launched Vector 4Seasons Gen-3 was recently named both the All-Season Tyre of the Year and overall Tyre of the Year by Tyrepress sister site WhatTyre.com. The Sava All-Weather features a similar V-shaped tread design to its premium stablemate, with a range of technologies designed to improve life and fuel efficiency as well as all-season capabilities.
Explaining the thinking behind the new Sava All Weather, the manufacturer says that within major European tyre markets as many as one-fifth of customers are choosing to fit all-season tyres, according to an IPSOS all-season study of Germany, Italy, Great Britain and Poland in December 2019. Beyond actual sales, interest is growing too, with three-quarters of consumers interested in buying all-season tyres. The all-season tyre segment remains the fastest growing. 2019 ETRMA Europool figures show the segment had an average annual growth rate of 31 per cent between 2014 and 2019.
Sava’s history of more than a century began in the Adria region – its home is Kranj, Slovenia – though the brand is now fitted to vehicles throughout Europe. This region encompasses the Alps, the Danube-Carpathians and the Mediterranean, and such varied climatic conditions make the newest all-season tyre technology particularly well-suited to Sava’s local markets. The All Weather has been designed with the variability of Adria’s roads in mind, the brand states. It adds that the tyre performs on snowy and wet surfaces, while remaining durable with high mileage potential.
Improved characteristics
Parent company Goodyear says the Sava All Weather tyre offers reliable performance and handling on wet surfaces thanks to its V-shaped tread pattern. This increases its resistance to aquaplaning by efficiently evacuating the tread of water, a feature that results in improved wet grip and braking.
The tyre achieves more reliable control in the snow through a combination of wave-shaped and straight longitudinal sipes in the tread. This combination creates multi-directional edges that run diagonally in multiple directions, which improves the tyre’s snow-biting ability and results in better grip.
The tyre also contains a polymer blend in its compound that delivers longer tyre life and lower fuel consumption. Its tread compound offers better wear resistance, resulting in better mileage, via low heat generation. This contributes to lower energy consumption and consequently better fuel efficiency.
The Sava All Weather is available in sizes between 14 and 18 inches. Its full range will be gradually made available by the beginning of 2022.
