ViaMichelin gains wear & tear calculator
A new service on the ViaMichelin site enables users to measure the cost of wear and tear to their vehicles when calculating an itinerary or the distance to a particular destination. When given the vehicle model and build year, date and price of purchase and annual mileage, ViaMichelin calculates the per-mile operating cost associated with using the vehicle.
ViaMichelin calculates cost of wear and tear based on the number of miles travelled over a 12-month period, taking vehicle depreciation into account. It doesn’t factor in vehicle maintenance costs, however. The cost breakdown page for a given journey provides a summary of all costs associated with the selected itinerary.
Michelin positions this new service for people who wish to control their travel budget as well as those who are car sharing or renting out their vehicle. It is available to ViaMichelin users in the UK as well as those in Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland.
