New additions to Conti Scandinavia winter truck tyre range
Continental has completed its Scandinavia range of winter truck tyres with the addition of a 22.5-inch tyre line. The Conti Scandinavia HS3 steer axle tyre and Conti Scandinavia HD3 drive axle tyres are now available and will be joined by the Conti Scandinavia HT3 trailer tyre in June.
According to Continental, these third-generation tyres provide a number of benefits over their predecessors. It says the HS3 delivers up to ten per cent better mileage and up to five per cent greater fuel efficiency than its second-generation counterpart, while the HD3 “offers very good traction in snow and excellent wet grip.”
“As our customers face tougher market demands, they expect us to deliver higher-performance products,” says Hinnerk Kaiser, head of Tire Development at Continental. “For the Generation 3 winter tyres we pooled our tyre expertise and brought new technologies into play in order to push the performance envelope.”
Conti Scandinavia HS3
The Conti Scandinavia HS3 offers maximum steering stability and optimal water drainage at the steer axle thanks to pocket sipe technology. This pattern design features a large number of sipes for optimal traction on wintry roads. Stone trapping is minimised by the pattern geometry, with bevelled flanks set at different angles.
Conti Scandinavia HD3
The Conti Scandinavia HD3 drive axle tyre rises to numerous challenges posed by wintry roads: reliable power transmission to the road, directional control through corners and the ability to transfer the full braking power generated by the truck’s service brake or retarder. Continental says the key to achieving these goals is the new pattern geometry. The longitudinal groove prevents stone trapping through a zigzag arrangement with bevelled flanks set at different angles. And bevelled edges make for a more stone-resistant design. As a result, this tyre delivers the best possible traction and brake force transmission with no compromises.
Conti Scandinavia HT3
The Conti Scandinavia HT3 features siping technology that delivers a high level of safety. Pocket sipes provide good stability in turning and braking manoeuvres, while the tyre’s wide shoulders safely withstand strong lateral forces.
From winter to all-season
Over the course of their working lives, third-generation Conti Scandinavia products transition from specialist winter to all-season tyres. This transformation is driven by the wearing of the winter tread pattern over time, which reveals a second-phase tread that features more summer elements in the pattern.
Hinnerk Kaiser shares that Continental used a compound with a higher percentage of natural rubber in order to “further improve rolling resistance and maximise flexibility in low temperatures.” With their lower rolling resistance and two-phase tread design, Continental says the new Scandinavia winter tyres shine when it comes to fuel consumption.
