Obituary: Andy Homer
Shortly before Christmas, Rema Tip Top shared the sad news that Andy Homer passed away on 17 December, aged just 56. Derek Myers, managing director of Rema Tip Top Automotive South Africa, wrote that as well as being lovingly remembered by his son and family, Andy “will also forever be remembered by his numerous extended families, business colleagues and dear friends.”
Andy Homer was born in Wakefield, Leeds, England on 30 September 1964 and completed his schooling in the area. Afterwards he joined local company B&B Earthmover Tyre Repairs and served his apprenticeship there between 1981 and 1984, and it was here where he began his education, knowledge, love and passion for the tyre industry. He then progressed in his career to shop foreman, retread technician and in 1994 became the company’s technical and training support manager.
That same year, Andy took up the position as technical and training support manager with Grahams Tyre Products and relocated to Sydney, Australia. He remained with the company until taking on the role of international sales manager with Monaflex Vulcanising Systems in 2004. He remained in this Australia-based position until 2016.
In May 2017, Andy joined Rema Tip Top Automotive, South Africa and assisted in the development and launch of its RemaVulc curing system to the international market. Derek Myers notes that “with his knowledge, passion and dedication,” Andy Homer achieved great personal goals.
“Andy will always be remembered as a charismatic professional, father and friend who never failed to bring a smile to anyone who had the honour of meeting him and is a great loss to us all,” shares Myers.
