Ferentino tyres, the spiritual children of Marangoni
Following the official opening of the Ferentino tyre factory in Sri Lanka last week, a closer look reveals that the company has even more in common with its European and particularly Italian colleagues than it first appears.
As we reported in January 2017, Onyx Group subsidiary Ceylon Steel bought Marangoni’s car tyre radial processes, technological know-how and production line from Marangoni Group subsidiary a few years ago.
Thus, the establishment of the Ferentino Mythos passenger car tyre line represents a strong link between Marangoni passenger car radials and the Ferentino car tyres that are produced in roughly the same place, using what Ferentino described as “world-class European technology” today. Indeed, the Mythos coincidence is not a one-off. Ferentino also offers parallel Verso and M-Power product lines as well.
A closer look reveals that, not only are the Mythos, Verso, M-Power product lines obviously allusions to car tyre profiles of the same name produced under the Marangoni brand, they also look extremely similar. Since Onyx Group subsidiary, Ceylon Steel, bought the Marangoni Group’s car tyre production in 2016 (which had been inactive since 2014) Onyx Group has since put the ex-Marangoni moulds into operation in Sri-Lanka. Indeed, when the Ferentino Mythos is viewed alongside the Marangoni Mythos, the two are virtually indistinguishable (see above comparison photo).
