Toyota brings Christmas shutdown forward due to supply issues
Following the closure of Honda’s Swindon factory earlier in the month, Toyota has become the second large carmaker to shut its UK plants due to supply issues.
Toyota Motor Corp. has said it will suspend operations at its plants in Britain and France as a result of the closure of the border with France that was caused the discovery of a more transmissible variant of Covid-19 in England. The factories had been scheduled to close from Thursday for the Christmas and New Year period.
Toyota’s engine factory and vehicle production bases in Britain will close from 22 December and 23 December 2020 respectively. Furthermore, the company said while some inventory remains, it is feared that the border closure may affect supplies.
