Goodyear enters lubricants segment in India
Goodyear has reportedly entered the automotive lubricants segment in India. Goodyear is collaborating with Assurance International, a part of Satya Group, in the venture which focuses on a new line of engine oils that are designed to complement Goodyear’s tyre product portfolio. According to local news sources, the product line includes “greases, brake fluid, transmission oil, tractor oil, diesel exhaust fluid, gear oil and hydraulic oils”.
While Goodyear will provide research and development support, Gurgaon-based Assurance International will manufacture, market and distribute the products.
Goodyear India Country Head Sales and Marketing Sanjay Sharma said the company has approached the Indian market because it is one of the top three automotive lubricant consumers globally:
“We are looking at around 4-5 per cent market share by 2025 in the lubricant aftermarket segment amidst the multinational companies currently present in the country”.
Currently, the majority share in the country’s automotive lubricants market is held by public sector oil companies which also run fuel pumps. In the second phase, Goodyear and Assurance are said to be looking at OE contracts.
The lubricant products will be manufactured at two facilities in Hisar (Haryana) and Mumbai (Maharashtra).
