Point S aims to double African network in next two years
Tyre retail and car maintenance group Point S has 90 points of sale on the continent of Africa, but the network wants to double that number by 2022. Present in 41 countries around the world, Point S has recorded particularly strong performance in South Africa and is targeting development via openings in new countries. It has opened locations in Cameroon and Senegal in 2020.
Point S explains that the African automotive aftermarket is evolving positively, driven by new road safety legislation, the increasing safety of car fleets, and a lower average age of cars in the parc. This is now approaching that of European vehicles. With hybrid vehicles beginning to make inroads in the market too, there is a growing need for a technically proficient and high-quality car maintenance network that can handle multi-branding, Point S adds.
“The car maintenance market is in full evolution in Africa. The growth potential is really interesting. We can be proud to have a qualitative network which is constantly adapting to the specificities and the maturity of each market,” comments Charles Legrand, Point S Group’s Africa and Middle East manager.
Continued development in existing markets
Point S is growing quickly in South Africa, with more than 65 points of sale, and a target of 70 outlets by the end of 2020. Point S was established in the country as a Masterfranchise in 2012, and it continues to support the acquisition of new expertise, Point S adds. The Covid-19 pandemic has not halted new opening projects in the country.
The retail network was established in Morocco at the end of 2015, and there are now 20 points of sale in the north African state. Two more openings are scheduled before the end of this year. Morrocan outlets are typically multi-service centres, coupled with related business activities, such as gas stations and insurance agencies.
In the Republic of Djibouti, Point S has a single point of sale, but, with 26 bays, it is the biggest Point S centre in Africa.
Three additional African countries have been added to the Point S network in 2020. The brand has entered the Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, and Senegal. In the Côte d’Ivoire, Point S now has two outlets. The brand aims to open another 14 within four years with its local partner, the oil company, Pétro Ivoire. In Cameroon and Senegal, the first Point S outlets are due to open in the coming weeks.
