Trico-branded Porsche competes in first round of Porsche Sprint Challenge
The Trico-sponsored Porsche Cayman made an instant impact at Donington Park at the weekend (19-20 September) with driver, Sarah Moore, securing sixth and seventh place results at the two-race meeting. The Porsche Sprint Challenge Great Britain is contested by identical, 425 hp 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport cars, so with equal performance, it’s the skill and abilities of the drivers that makes the difference, rather than the development of the machinery.
On track, the Trico Porsche was resplendent in its instantly recognisable red and white livery and Sarah acquitted herself admirably in her first outing in this competitive series and indeed first race in a Porsche Cayman GT4. To be instantly on the pace is a great testament to the talent of the long-time Trico supported racer. Sarah is a former Britcar Endurance Champion and one of the leading drivers in the international W Series for women.
The Porsche Sprint Challenge Great Britain is a new series for this year, introduced under the auspices of Porsche GB and designed to be a stepping stone to the long-established Porsche Carrera Cup GB and ultimately, to the Porsche Supercup, which supports the Formula 1 World Championship around the globe.
Trico’s senior marketing manager, Sam Robinson, said: “This was Sarah’s first two races in the Porsche and she’s done really well to finish sixth and seventh. I’m confident that as she gains experience, she’ll continue to improve and I’m keen to watch her progress over the next two rounds at Croft and Silverstone. Sarah’s a fantastic driver and Trico is proud to sponsor her, so it’s great to see her on circuit driving the Trico-branded car.”
Sarah Moore, said: “I never thought I’d be back racing in 2020 given what’s going on in the world right now with Covid-19, so I can’t thank everyone involved enough for the opportunity to race in such a fantastic championship and vital support from TRICO.
“I was thrown in the deep end at Donington Park, as we were straight into qualifying having had no practice ahead of the weekend due to my work commitments.
“So, I spent all weekend just trying to learn more about the car and readjusting back to a sports car after racing a Formula 3 car in W Series during 2019.
“I qualified seventh, just over a second off the pace, which, being a typical racing driver, I was a little annoyed about. But for my first race weekend in the car, with very little track time, I couldn’t really complain at all.
“I’m already looking forward to the next race weekend at Croft, my home circuit and want to make some improvements to help get myself get a bit further up that grid!”
The next round of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Great Britain will see the teams going to the Croft Circuit on 10 and 11 October. The final races will take place at Silverstone on 7 and 8 November.
