Michelin adds X Multi sizes & high load options
Michelin has extended its medium-haul X Multi truck tyre range with the addition of a new size to the X Multi Z and X Multi D lines. It has also introduced two new high load capacity tyres, the X Multi HLZ and X Multi HLT.
The new X Multi size is 315/80 R22.5 fitment, a dimension that Michelin says “accounts for a significant proportion of total demand.” The tyre maker reports that the Michelin X Multi Z steer axle tyre delivers up to 15 per cent better mileage than its predecessor the X Mulitway 3D XZE, and the X Multi D drive tyre a mileage improvement of up to ten per cent.
Michelin X Multi HLZ & HLT – uprated load capacity for tractor units and trailers
Aimed particularly at logging rigs and tractor units equipped with cranes, the Michelin X Multi HLZ is a 385/65-R22.5 steer axle tyre with an increased load capacity of 10 tonnes per axle. Michelin says the tyre can deliver up to 30 per cent better mileage than its predecessor, the Multiway HD XZE. Designed for all types of road generally encountered in medium-distance and national haulage, the tread of the X Multi HLZ incorporates a compound that enables the original grooves to be shallower while also permitting superior mileage.
The Michelin X Multi HLT for load-bearing axles addresses the key question of load capacity at a time when tri-axle trailers are increasingly making way for tandems. The new tyre is capable of carrying the equivalent of an extra tonne per axle compared with the Michelin X Multi T, while its tread incorporates Regenion self-regenerating tread and Carbion technology for longer life (Michelin reports up to 25 per cent additional mileage potential compared with predecessor tyre the X Multiway HD XZE) and lower rolling resistance.
All-season suitability
All Michelin X Multi tyres feature the 3PMSF symbol, which denotes their suitability for use in countries where winter tyre use is regulated. Michelin points out that the tyres retain their 3PMSF certification even when their tread is worn down to a depth of 2mm.
