ThyssenKrupp carbon rims receive global approvals
ThyssenKrupp Carbon Components GmbH has become the first and only carbon rim manufacturer to receive global road approval. The Kesselsdorf, Germany company received European road approval the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) last year. In addition to a general operating permit (ABE) marked by a KBA number, the rims now also have an approval from the US Department of Transportation (DOT) according to DOT E and from the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism or according to the so-called Japan Light Alloy Wheel Standard (JWL). All approvals are noted on the rims and should document the corresponding quality standards.
The approvals stand for “worry-free driving with carbon rims worldwide,” the company states. It is already working with Bilstein of America on North American market sales, while the JWL standard approval has prompted Japanese sales partners to start selling the German made wheels.
“Worldwide road approval is an important step for us. We can now serve the great international demand for high quality carbon rims ‘Made in Germany’. The fact that we are the first and only carbon rim manufacturer to meet all internationally required approvals with ABE, JWL and DOT E speaks for our quality. Our development and production processes – above all the unique braiding technology – have paved this way for us, ”says ThyssenKrupp Carbon Components managing director Dr Jens Werner.
