NTDA delighted at return of MOT
Following the news that the MOT test will be reinstated from 1 August following a coronavirus-induced hiatus, NTDA chief executive expressed delight that the government listened to the tyre trade:
“Needless to say, the NTDA is delighted that the Government has listened to us, and the other leading automotive industry trade bodies, and has decided to commence mandatory MOT testing from 1 August, something we have been campaigning for over the last two months. We will continue to work with our members and support them in ensuring that all social distancing and safety measures are upheld and that our key workers have the right information to do their job safely.
“Although well-intentioned, and arguably appropriate at the time, this extension has caused a backlog of vehicle defects and problems that would have been identified if MOTs had been carried out when due and we are pleased that the extension will now end and mandatory inspections will re-commence, but we also recommend that motorists whose MOT would have been due in the immediate future do not delay and have an MOT as soon as possible to avoid the rush!”
