NAMA issues advice on opening to auctions
Following the government closure of auctions due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, NAMA has looked at ways in which its members can maintain operations and continue to sell vehicles to customers safely. “We have issued guidance for our motor auctions to give them advice on how they can effectively and safely maintain their business activities during the current lockdown,” said Louise Wallis, head of the National Association of Motor Auctions (NAMA) regarding the opening of motor auctions during the COVID-19 restrictions.
The guidance document contains advice for auctions on how they can use online auctions and transactions in order to restart their sales, and keep vehicles moving from their sites. It addresses health and safety, social distancing, hygiene, and how to properly deliver vehicles during the current restrictions.
Wallis continued, “This document has been issued to ensure that members have the critical knowledge they need to operate their businesses during this difficult period, and ensure that the sector can continue to support the wider automotive sector and the UK economy as a whole.
“Government guidance is constantly evolving, so we encourage our members to monitor NAMA communications as we adapt our guidance towards full reopening in the coming weeks and months.”
- Battery care – start the engine once a week and allow it to run for about 15 minutes. This will re-charge the battery and help keep the engine in good condition.
- Oil – check oil levels and for any leaks.
- Check windscreen wipers and screen wash
- Coolant – is the level correct?
- Damage – is there any damage to bodywork that might affect roadworthiness? If you’re not sure ask for advice.
- Dashboard – check for warning lights when the engine is running.
- Rubber – are the tyres safe, correctly inflated and legal? Do you have a working spare or alternative solution in the vehicle?
- Windscreen and mirrors – do you have clear all-round vision and is the glass damage free?
