General Tire makes OTR sector comeback
General Tire has returned to the OTR tyre market – but not in Europe at this point in time. The Continental brand previewed its relaunch range at the Tire Industry Association Off The Road Conference in the USA in February, and General OTR tyres are being offered to customers in the Americas and Asia Pacific regions.
The General earthmoving tyre line-up is aimed at customers who are “looking for durability and great value, combined with the reputation of a well-known and trusted brand.” Six products for loaders, articulated dump trucks, rigid dump trucks and scrapers are on offer, all featuring V.ply technology.
General TE65: A low aspect ratio, wide base tyre for wheel loaders and dozers operating in heavy duty dig and load operations.
General TE191: Heavy duty wheel loader tyre for dig and load operations.
General TE6: A bi-directional L3 tyre ideals for compact loader applications.
General TE188: Bi-directional multi-purpose earthmoving tyre for use on ADTs, RDTs, Loaders and scrapers.
General TE132: A wide base non-directional tyre designed for dump trucks in harsh off-road conditions.
General TE11: A rugged tyre design primarily used for grading services up to six miles per hour.
V.ply technology
Originally inspired by racing tyre design, V.ply technology enhances cross-ply technology with multiple cords arranged in a recognisable V-shape. The technology combines robustness and tyre stability with rim seat, force transmission and steering response in demanding vehicle operations. Up to 22 layers of high-resistance polymer fibres, precisely aligned in a V-pattern and embedded in up to three wire beads, deliver a sturdy tyre construction. Continental says V.ply construction technology contributes to extraordinarily strong sidewalls, providing excellent protection against tyre punctures and cuts.
