Bridgestone launches 2nd generation all-season touring tyre
Weather Control A005 EVO built with NanoPro-tech compound technology, improving fuel efficiency, snow performance, and achieving A-grade wet grip
Bridgestone has launched the Weather Control A005 EVO tyre, the second generation of its all-season touring tyre. Bridgetsone states it has designed the tyre to meet the needs and expectations of European drivers. Built using Bridgestone’s advanced, high silica NanoPro-tech compound technology, the manufacturer has employed new mixing technology to improve silica dispersion. This allows the A005 EVO to offer enhanced fuel efficiency alongside improved winter performance. Like its predecessor, the Weather Control A005, Bridgestone’s new EVO edition has been designed to deliver year-round control, safety, and convenience, reengineered to offer additional performance benefits.
Alongside optimised carcass construction and contact pressure distribution, Bridgestone says the A005 EVO is “capable of handling everyday driving challenges across all four seasons without compromising on wear performance.” Internal Bridgestone lab testing shows the new tyre offers similar mileage performance to its premium summer tyres, subject to driving style and maintenance.
In the tread, the Weather Control A005 EVO features a V-shaped layout and Z-shaped sipes. These deliver snow traction three per cent better than its predecessor based on tests carried out at Bridgestone’s proving ground in Sweden in the 5-35kmh range. Snow braking distance (40-5kmh) is also three per cent better, while slalom acceleration is four per cent better at 50kmh. As you would expect of a premium all-season tyre, the A005 EVO also carries the Three Peak Mountain Snow Flake (3PMSF) sidewall marking.
In addition to its A-grade wet grip on the European tyre label, the A005 EVO has B/C-grade fuel efficiency. DriveGuard runflat versions of the tyre are graded E in this category.
Availability
Developed and manufactured in Europe, the Bridgestone Weather Control A005 EVO will be available as of July 2020 in 94 sizes from 15” to 21”, accommodating most cars and on-road SUVs. Bridgestone will offer eight popular sizes with DriveGuard RFT. This allows drivers to keep control and continue driving safely for 80km at speeds of up to 80km/h when the tyre experiences damage. The line-up also includes 64 HRD sizes, 15 more than its predecessor.
Emilio Tiberio, chief technical officer and chief operating officer at Bridgestone EMIA said: “We’re determined to help drivers overcome the everyday challenges they face on the road, no matter the time of year. Building on the incredible wet grip performance that was engineered into the A005, we decided to improve the snow performance of its successor even further. The Bridgestone Weather Control A005 EVO truly offers drivers peace of mind on the roads whatever the season.”
